La Tomatina Festival, also known as the World’s Biggest Food Fight is held every year on the last Wednesday of August Month in Bunol, Spain. You must have seen the glimpse of La Tomatina Festival in the Bollywood movie Zindagi Na Milegi Dubara. From all over the world people come to be a part of this festival where the contestants throw ripe tomatoes on each other in an open street. Earlier more than 40,000 people used to be a part of this hug tomato fight but since 2013 the numbers of contestants are restricted to 20,000 only.
Several lorries filled with tomatoes reach the town centre at about 11 AM. Water cannons are then fired to indicate the beginning of this one hour food fighting festival. The festival is a great fun. However, there are a few rules that you need to follow and a few things that you should avoid, in order to make it an unforgettable experience. The rules are simple. Do not throw hard objects, squash your tomatoes before hitting others, don’t rip off other’s shirts and follow direction of the security personnel. Avoid wearing flip-flops and use waterproof cameras for clicking photos. Also, book your accommodation well in advance.
